NWI Sox 12U Qualify for 2011 NSA World Series

03/21/2011 5:10 PM - The old saying of "hard work pays off" was never more obvious than this past weekend where the NWI White Sox 12U Fastpitch Softball team won the "Leaping Leprechauns Softball Tournament" held in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Head Coach Kevin Martin and his staff have worked very hard this off season to mold this group of very talented young ladies into a team that will not quit. The NWI White Sox 12U team refuse to lose, including two international tie breaker wins during tournament play with the second coming in the championship game, a 7-6 victory over a tough Tanel 360 Prospects team.

The 12U Sox made the trip down to West Lafayette without one of their star players, pitcher Julia Taylor. Julia was unable to attend due to an illness which meant pitcher Kendal Torrence was given the bulk of the pitching duties and was awarded the defensive game ball.

"Kendal played her heart out," said Coach Martin. "She really dug deep throughout the entire tournament."

On the offensive side, Katie Ericks was 15 for 21 at the plate for an outstanding .714 batting average in tournament play. Ericks was awarded the offensive game ball. Lexy Young had a towering home run blast for the NWI Sox lone home run.

"Key Hits, timely bunts, and smart base running made the difference," Coach Martin concluded. "All of our girls played a big part in the tournament championship."

Great job girls! Everyone at the White Sox Training Academy is very proud of you.
