Bulls Sox 12U Take 2nd Place at ASA/USA National Qualifier in Joliet

10/17/2011 2:50 PM -
Saturday at the Inwood facility in Joliet saw the White Sox 12U win all five games which placed them in the Championship round on Sunday. They were matched up with the Plainfield Edge Chaos.
Game one saw the day start under rainy and windy conditions and the game started just as rough for the White Sox. Edge Chaos took an early 3 to 0 lead after the 1st inning. The inning was highlighted defensively by a great catch at shortstop by Polaski. By the 3rd inning the Edge Chase were up 8 to 0. The 4th inning saw the White Sox break through with three runs highlighted by a triple by Cuchran and an rbi single by Curbis. The inning ended with the score 8 to 3 Edge Chaos. The White Sox drew closer in the fifth inning with a two rbi triple by Kalnicky. The score was now 8 to 5. The White Sox managed to load the bases in the 7th inning, but were only able to push across one run resulting in an 8 to 6 final and the need for a second game.
Game 2 saw another quick start by the Edge Chaos, taking a 1 to 0 lead after the first half inning. In the bottom of the first with a Cuchran on first base, Alyssa Demma came to the plate and hit a ball that would have cleared a 250 ft fence. Coach Young waived her home but unfortunately she was called out by the home plate umpire. The White Sox did tie the score 1-1. The third inning saw a great diving catch by Curbis in center field to end an Edge Chaos threat. The score remained tied at 1. The Edge Chaos broke the tie in the 5th, scoring three runs and taking a 4 to 1 lead, but the White Sox weren’t done yet. The sixth inning saw Young with a two run homer to pull the White Sox to within one run. The inning ended with the Edge Chaos holding a 4 to 3 lead. Unfortunately, that is where it would end. The White Sox could not mount a rally in the 7th and the Edge Chaos won the Championship.
With their second place finish the White Sox still received a bid to the ASA/USA Nationals hosted in Moline, IL for Summer 2012. The girls can hold their heads high after two hard fought games on Championship Sunday! The team will take a couple weeks off prior to their preparation for their annual winter tournament get away in Pekin Illinois.
