LISLE, IL. - The Bulls/Sox Academy was featured in a segment on ESPN’s television series RISE Up on Tuesday, October 4. RISE Up Chicago chronicled the transformation of the athletic facilities of Dyett High School in Chicago and profiled several student athletes and the challenges at the school.
The Bulls/Sox Academy, owned by the Chicago Bulls and White Sox, participation included a fitness field trip for Dyett students to the Academy in Lisle, a basketball clinic at the Berto Center, and a surprise appearance by Scottie Pippen. The field trip in Lisle included the Vault, the Academy’s new exergaming room, which gets kids to exercise while playing video games. ESPN RISE Up featured the room as part of the program.
“ESPN RISE Up is an extraordinary program. It emphasizes the importance of fitness and athletics in building character and is committed to providing the facilities and resources for schools that face enormous challenges. That mirrors the Bulls/Sox Academy’s mission. We understand that very few student athletes make it to the level of professional sports. That’s not why we do this. We are committed to fostering the life skills and character attributes that come from participating in sports“, commented Xan Pearson, Vice President of Marketing at the Bulls/Sox Academy. “Last year we launched fitness field trips for schools because we have an opportunity to use the power of our brand, the Bulls and the White Sox, to get kids moving in a fun, interactive environment. We have an obesity epidemic facing our youth. The Bulls/Sox Academy helps kids learn how to play a sport very well; but we can also teach these kids the importance of leading healthy, active lives and how fitness can be fun, regardless of whether you are a starter on the varsity team.”
